Company

Comecer has always worked within the nuclear sector. At the end of the Seventies we had already started working together with ENEA DISP and Ansaldo on a wide range of research projects. Some of the most important ones we carried out during that period were:

  • an alpha-tight press for plutonium tablets;
  • glove boxes for the containment of plutonium;
  • a sampling rack for the Brasimone nuclear power plant;
  • plutonium filtration systems;
  • monitoring sytems;
  • seals for the vitrification of nuclear waste (made for ISPRA);
  • 40 transport containers for radioactive material in liquid or solid state (developed together with ENEA);
  • 3 mobile laboratories for the detection of radioactivity in the human body (together with ENEA). The laboratories were given as a gift by the Italian government to the Soviet Union. Testing took place in Moscow with the satisfaction of both parties;
  • the control and management of drums containing potentially radioactive material such as clothing and objects (project financed by the European Community);

Recently, on commission of Ansaldo and in collaboration with Sogin, we developed a shielded cell to select liquid radioactive contents in ENEA’s storage tanks of Saluggia. On that occasion we were identified as the only Italian company capable of this type of work within the nuclear sector, as a result of all our certifications and testing capabilities.

When in 1985 Italy decreed the stop of the development of nuclear energy, the large majority of companies involved abandoned the nuclear sector we transferred our technology and know-how to the medical field, becoming world leader in safety technologies of nuclear medicine laboratories.

Today Comecer counts several mechanical engineers and software engineers. We design, develop, produce internally, and export worldwide all our high-tech systems aimed at improving accuracy and safety. For this purpose we are using an internal code of ethics called Safety first that is more stringent than current legislation.

Our attention to safety translates in Quality Certification of materials and workmanship. Comecer uses stainless steel AISI 316L, whose high quality and mirror-brite finishing allow our products to reach the highest industry standards. Internal boxes are TIG welded using a method whose operators and processes are both certified under RINA according to the standards EN ISO 15614-1 (PQR), EN 288-2 (WPS), EN 287-1 (WQP). Weldings are subject to internal finishing treatments such as degreasing, pickling and passivation, to bring the steel to its original characteristics of durability and resistance to corrosion.

All these factors have contributed to making Comecer leader in the field of radiochemistry, where it operates since the Sixties on behalf of large industrial groups and research institutions producing:

  • shielded doors for radiotherapy and cyclotron bunkers;
  • shielded cabins for industrial radiography;
  • low background lead wells;
  • x-ray and gamma-ray shieldings;
  • containers for the transport of radioactive material;
  • systems for handling radioactive material.

Within the field of conventional nuclear medicine Comecer designs and manufactures laboratories for the handling of radioactive substances that guarantee minimum operator exposure and the total decontaminable and unchanging in any working conditions.

Company: example of hot cells installation

Comecer, however, has never left the field of nuclear industry. Specialized in decommissioning and production of cells for processing of nuclear substances, Comecer has continued to work with Ansaldo and is exclusive agent of the French company la Calhène, preserving and in terms of know-how and in terms of staff efficiency achieved in years of nuclear power in Italy.

Today Comecer can boast a consolidated position of  radiochemical specialist, both on a national and international level. Comecer’s products are installed in the most important Research Institutes, Universities and Hospitals worldwide.
