ALCEO SYSTEM Halogen

TGT 124I — Target Shuttle

The target is the component which is directly irradiated by the cyclotron beam: it is an enriched metal isotope (123Te and 124Te) which produces the positron emitter (123I and 124I) after the bombardment. The metal isotope is carried by a cylindrical shuttle that has a special alloy body with a platinum well. The enriched metal isotope will be melted on the bottom of the shuttle platinum well.

PTS — Irradiation unit

The irradiation unit is directly connected to the cyclotron and guarantees the correct positioning of the target in front of the beam port. Target positioning is fully automated. The unit is connected to its own “water and helium cooling system”. The cooling system is connected to the cyclotron cold water and helium circuit, as a normal liquid target. The unit is connected to the EVP unit by a flexible tube (which has O.D.=35 mm) for the target transfer. Comecer has tested target transfers up to 50 m distance between the cyclotron and the hot cell.

EVP — Iodine Evaporation/Purification unit

The unit can be placed inside a hot cell and must be connected to the PTS unit with the target transfer tube. The EVP module contains the necessary components for the following operations: — automatic transfer of the target shuttles between the hot cell and the cyclotron — plating of the target (tellurium dioxide) on the target shuttle — evaporation of the iodine radioisotope from the irradiated target. The purification task makes use of a “disposable cassette”, in order to avoid the module contamination and to guarantee the product sterility. Comecer supplies the sterile cassette, while the preparation of the required synthesis reagents is the customer’s responsibility.

Command and control system

ALCEO’s control system is made up of PLC units. Each single module is controlled by its own PLC. All the PLCs are connected to a Control PC which has the function of HMI (Human Machine Interface).

TGT 64Cu — Target Shuttle

The target is the component directly irradiated by the cyclotron beam: it is an enriched metal isotope (64Ni) which produces the positron emitter (64Cu) after the bombardment. The metal isotope is carried by a cylindrical shuttle that has an aluminium body with a platinum well. The enriched metal isotope must be electroplated on the bottom of the shuttle platinum well.

PTS — Irradiation unit

(the same as ALCEO HALOGEN)

EDS — Electrochemical/Dissolution/Transfer/Storage unit

It can be placed inside a hot cell which is connected to the cyclotron by the O.D.=35 mm flexible tube for the target transfer. It is a pneumatic system that carries out automatically the following operations: — automatic transfer of the targets between the hot cell and the cyclotron — electrochemical deposition of the enriched metal isotope on the shuttle platinum well — dissolution of the irradiated isotope — storage of target shuttles

TADDEO-PRF — Purification module

It can be placed inside a hot cell and must be connected to the EDS module by capillary lines. TADDEO-PRF module contains the necessary components for the purification by Ion Chromatography of the produced isotope (64Cu). The module is disposable cassette based.

Command and control system

ALCEO’s control system is made up of PLC units. Each single module is controlled by its own PLC. The PLCs that control the PTS, EDS and TADDEO-PRF modules are all connected to the Control PC.

TGT 89Zr — Target Shuttle

The target is the component directly irradiated by the cyclotron beam: it is a metal isotope (89Y) which produces the positron emitter (89Zr) after the bombardment. The metal isotope is carried by a cylindrical shuttle that has an aluminium body with a platinum well. The metal isotope must be placed on the bottom of the shuttle platinum well.

PTS — Irradiation unit

(the same as ALCEO METAL 64Cu and ALCEO HALOGEN)

FDS — Dissolution/Transfer/Storage unit

It can be placed inside a hot cell which is connected to the cyclotron by the O.D.=35 mm flexible tube for the target transfer. It is an electro-pneumatic system that carries out automatically the following operations: — automatic transfer of the targets between the hot cell and the cyclotron — dissolution of the irradiated isotope — storage of target shuttles.

TADDEO-PRF — Purification module

It can be placed inside a hot cell and must be connected to the FDS module by one capillary lines. TADDEO-PRF module contains the necessary components for the purification by Ion Chromatography of the produced isotope (89Zr). The module is disposable cassette based.

Command and control system

ALCEO’s control system is made up of PLC units. Each single module is controlled by its own PLC. The PLCs that control the PTS, FDS and TADDEO-PRF modules are all connected to the Control PC.
