The system is provided with a special detector allowing to measure the rates inside storage containers.
The containers are placed on top of a rotating motor driven platform, fastened to a mobile lead screen and entered — with a horizontal movement — inside a lead shielding. In this way, containers can be scanned without any inerference from the environmental radioactivity.
The supporting structure is made of epoxy coated carbon steel. The inner part is made out of an AISI 316L stainless steel block, with a Mirror Brite superficial finish and TIG continuous welding (with inert gas protection), afterwards grinded and polished: polishing ensures maximum decontaminability, while continuity between joints avoids any possible infiltration of contaminants. Radiused corners make cleaning and decontamination easier.
