Comecer: Safety First at 360 degrees

On February 28, 2014, Comecer obtained the OHSAS 18001 certification from DNV.

This is a further important step forward for Comecer. In fact, the new certification, along with the ISO 9001 and the Management Model pursuant to Italian Legislative Decree n.231/01, which Comecer already has in place, continues the virtuous path in the direction of social responsibility that the company, with its management, has undertaken many years ago. A choice resulting from the realization that a company is not only a place of production and services, but, first and foremost, a group of people organized and placed in a social context that they can help to improve with their work, thus giving hope to future generations.

As recently highlighted by CEO Alessia Zanelli: “With the OHSAS 18001 certification the management team wants to go beyond the simple compliance with the laws on workplace safety, knowing that if the technological innovation of machinery has, in recent years, played a crucial role in decreasing the number of accidents at work within companies, today this is no longer sufficient. Only the introduction of managerial models, known as “Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems,” able to connect investments in plants and facilities with the organization of work within a framework of objectives and results shared between managers and workers, can support a journey of continuous and long-lasting improvements relating to health and safety at work.”

With the OHSAS 18001 certification, the policy of continuous improvement – as put in place by Comecer through the adoption of a Quality Management System certificate – now also applies to workplace safety. All in the certainty that this additional commitment on the part of all management, placing the people who work at the center of the company system, will result in the best performance of prevention over time, with positive effects on staff satisfaction and work climate in general. And, as further emphasized by the CEO Alessia Zanelli: “More safety, greater staff satisfaction and an improved workplace climate will allow the company to grow in terms of competitiveness, thanks to an increase in productivity and a decrease in production costs, as confirmed by numerous studies conducted in recent years by OSHA in U.S. companies, but also by studies and research conducted by INAIL in Italy.”

The project that led to the OHSAS 18001 certification was made possible thanks to the work of all Comecer employees, led by Marco Martinelli (RSPP) and Giuseppe Peloso (Quality System Manager) that with dedication, commitment and perseverance have translated into operating procedures the daily work activities that take place in the company, framing them in a Safety Management System.
