A downstream isolator is dedicated to the last part of a cell therapy or biological process. Of course, there may be several options in how to interpret the functions of the isolator. Basically, a downstream isolator allows users to collect products from the expansion/maturation process and eventually prepare them for delivery to the end customer.
Depending on the nature of the product to be delivered, an isolator may include a collection area, an area for filling into vials or bags for infusion or cryopreservation, or alternatively, a packaging area if the final product requires this step.
